Nurse Aide students gain experience in clinical settings by performing previously learned caregiver skills on residents in skilled nursing facilities. Students who successfully complete all course requirements receive a certificate of CNA class completion and becomes eligible to sit for the NNAAP North Carolina State Nurse Aide I competency examination. Students must successfully pass both the written and skills exam to be listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide Registry with the Division of Health & Human Service Regulation to be employed as a Nurse Aide I.
Please be aware of CCC&TI’s policies. We are visitors at our clinical sites and must adhere to their rules and regulations. Clinical sites may require a urine drug screen prior to being onboarded into their facility for clinical rotation. Screenings may be performed onsite.

- Must be completed and signed, or stamped, by student’s health care provider or health department
- Must have the following immunizations or titers documented:
- Tetanus Booster within past 10 years OR record of Tdap
- Varicella (chickenpox) (2 shots or titer =/>1.09
- Measles, mumps, rubella – MMR (2 shots or + titer)
- Hepatitis B – (3 shots OR Positive Hepatitis B titer OR Declination)
- Tuberculin Skin Test (TST) – current, negative
- For questions regarding immunizations, student should contact their healthcare provider recommendation of need, based upon age, health concerns and current CDC guidelines. If there are special considerations, the provider must document the need on letterhead or office stamp for validation.
- Physical Requirements
- Students are required to lift 50lbs., stoop, bend or stand for long periods of time. Students with physical limitations should verify with their health care provider that they can safely perform physical requirements before registering.
- Clinicals are held in nursing homes. Students will give showers, stand on wet floors, make beds, transfer and ambulate patients, all of which place risks of falls/accidents.
- Students may be exposed to various infections agents during the course that may become a health concern for those who are immunocompromised or are pregnant.
- It is the student’s responsibility to inform the instructor and the program coordinator of any health conditions that could impact the ability to meet the program’s physical requirements or place the student at risk. This information will be kept confidential among your instructors and Health Program Administrators.
- All students must practice and show proficiency in all skills in order to complete the course.
CNA is Required for Associate Degree in Nursing and Practical Nursing Diploma Programs.
One important requirement for acceptance into the Nursing Program at CCC&TI as well as many other nursing programs throughout the state, is that students successfully complete Nurse Aide I training and become listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide Registry. CNAs receive two (2) points toward competitive admission into the Physical Therapy Assistant program at CCC&TI.

- Yes, General Admission Requirements for the ADN program requires proof of successful completion of state approved training program and current NAI listing.
- How do I become listed as a Nurse Aide I (CNA) in North Carolina?
- The student must submit an application to Nurse Aide Competency and Evaluation Service (NACES) to be scheduled for the state-administered written and skills competency evaluation (NNAAP exam). Students who pass will then be listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry.

- CCC&TI is an in-facility testing center. Once you pass the Nurse Aide training course, students will be able to take the State Exams with their class on the Caldwell or Watauga Campus.
