Match One: Caldwell vs. Sandhills

In a match-up of two teams ranked in the NJCAA D-3 top six, the host Sandhills Community College defeated Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute 3-2 in volleyball on Saturday.
The Flyers, ranked number two, dominated sets one and three, winning 25-14 and 25-11. The Cobras, ranked number six, controlled set two for a 25-22 victory and rallied from a three point deficit to take set four 25-22. Sandhills built an early advantage in the fifth set and held on for a 15-11 victory.
For Caldwell, Kelsey Plumley led the teams in kills with 14 and a .150 hitting percentage. Lyrical Edwards had 10 kills to go along with her .118 hitting percentage. Lydia Jones had 23 assists while Taylor McClure collected 15. The Cobras were led in digs by Gracie McClure with 17 and Edwards with 13.
The two teams will play again in Hudson on October 4.
Match Two: USC-Salkehatchie vs. Caldwell

In their second match of the day, Caldwell shook off a slow start to defeat USC-Salkehatchie 3-1. The Indians took advange of Caldwell’s miscues to win the first set 25-12. The Cobras would regroup and take the next three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-15, and 25-16.
Kill leaders in the second match were Edwards with 15, Rebecca Bertoni with 9, and Plumley with 8. Bertoni led in hitting percentage with .286. Jones was the assist leader with 25 while Gracie McClure led in digs with 24.
After the tri-match, Caldwell’s record is 6-5 (0-1 in Region 10 D-3). The Cobras travel to Cleveland Community College on Tuesday and host Guilford Tech on Thursday. Both matches are at 6:00PM.
