The Surgical Technology program prepares the student to work in hospitals and surgery centers to assist with surgical operations. Surgical Technologists may prepare operating rooms for surgery, sterilize equipment, ensure surgical supplies are appropriate and available, ready patients for surgery, pass instruments and sterile surgical supplies to surgeons, count supplies to ensure that no foreign objects are retained in patients and maintain a sterile environment to prevent patient infection. Successful completion of both SUR-7000 and SUR-7001 is required to complete the Surgical Technology program. Upon successful completion of class, lab, and 320 clinical hours, the student will receive a certificate of completion and be prepared to sit for the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Tech in Surgery (TS-C) national certification examination.
