The North Carolina Nurse Aide I Candidate Handbook is provided as the basis for the skills review. Upon successful completion, the student will be better prepared to apply for and successfully pass the two-part written and skills examination required by North Carolina for relisting.
Important Notes:
- If you have taken the NC Nurse Aide l Exams three times within a two-year period and failed, you are ineligible to take a refresher class and must re-take the complete Nursing Assistant 1 course. References to this rule may be found in the NC Nurse Aide I Candidate Handbook).
- If your goal is to enroll in Nursing School, this course MAY NOT meet the required pre-requisite for the school you are applying to. You are encouraged to research this before registering.

Who can attend a Refresher Course?
This course is designed to update individuals and prepare them for the NC Nurse Aide 1 Written and Skills Exams. Eligibility for this class includes students who:
- Have successfully completed a NC Nurse Aide I Program from an accredited institution (minimal 75 hour course) within the last 3 years. This applies to students who have not yet been on the registry. Students who have attempted and failed the State Exam 3 times are ineligible for this course.
- Have a current Nurse Aide I listing from another state with no substantiated findings.
- Have an expired out-of-state listing with no substantiated findings or a successful completion of a Nurse Aide I Program from an out-of-state accredited institution within the last 5 years.
- Have an expired Nurse Aide registry for not greater than 5 years of the first day of the Refresher class.
- Are currently listed on the NC Nurse Aide I Registry but are not prepared for renewal due to unfulfilled work requirements, etc.
- Are military personnel and have documented medical/corpsman training.
- Are currently listed on the NC Nurse Aide I Registry but are not prepared for renewal due to unfulfilled work requirements, etc.
- *Hold a state recognized unencumbered health care credential. For Example: CNA, EMT, EMT-P, CMA, RMA, RN, LPN from any state.
*Before registering for the Nurse Aide Refresher, students should contact the Program Coordinator for approval if their health care credential is other than those listed above.
On the first day of class, students must provide the following documentation. Failure to do so will result in their removal from the class.
- A certificate of completion, a current license, certification or registry card that verifies the approved unexpired health care credential or-
- a copy of a previous CNA listing from the NC DHSR website. https://ncnar.ncdhhs.gov/verify_listings1.jsp
- Non-laminated Social Security Card
- Valid Driver’s license (First and last names must match on SS card and DL)
Reminder: Students must bring all required documentation with them on the first day. Failure to do so will result in their removal from the class.
Students must wear scrubs to class. The color is up to the student.
Successful completion of this 48 hour class:
- Students must pass a written exam with a grade of 72 or better.
- Students must pass a skills exam comparable to state testing.
- Students absence from class must not exceed 4 hours total for the duration of the course. This includes tardies.
Upon successful completion of this NA I Refresher class, students will be eligible to register for the State written and skills exam.
CCC&TI is an in-facility test center. Eligible students may take their state exams on campus.
Costs:
Course fee: $127.00 and a Student manual must be purchased from the CCCTI bookstore.
NNAAP NC CNA State exams are $140.00. This must be paid to Credentia when registering for exams at the end of the course.

- A copy of your driver’s license or other government issued photo ID
- A government issued Social Security Card, signed and not laminated
- A copy of your registry or other eligible health care credential certificates

Licensure
Licensure: Authorization granted to CCC&TI to provide instruction within another state does not imply or provide guarantees of any kind that an individual will be granted professional licensure by another state as a result of completing coursework at CCC&TI or receiving professional licensure in North Carolina. It is the sole responsibility of the individual/student to determine whether another college or license-awarding agency in another state will accept CCC&TI coursework and/or award licensure through a reciprocity agreement with the State of North Carolina.
