General Contractor License

This 60-hour course prepares students for the General Contractor’s licensing examination. Emphasis is placed on blueprints, laws and regulations, employment security laws of NC, and workers’ compensation.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, General Contracting Exam Prep students will:

  • Be knowledgeable in licensing requirements, building and administrative codes, insurance requirements, employment laws, safety, and general building code requirement.
  • Understand blueprint reading, cost estimation, quantity take-off, OSHA laws and regulations, the NC Residential Building Code, construction practices, and construction management.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in roofing, carpentry, masonry, steel joists, erosion, concrete and various other subjects.
  • Be prepared to take the N.C. Licensing Exam for the Residential Contractor’s License.

Upon successful completion of the course, students are eligible to sit for the NC Contractor’s licensing examination.

Cost

  • Cost for the course is $182
  • The approximate cost for the books needed in the General Contractor License Preparation course is between $1,200 – $1,500. During the first class, the instructor will notify students of any other needed materials and where to purchase the required books.
