Recap:  Sandhills Community College’s volleyball avenged Monday’s loss against Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute by defeating the Cobras 3-1 Friday evening in Hudson.  The Flyers won by set scores of 23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-21.

Set one was tight throughout, with Caldwell gaining the biggest lead of the set at 7-4.  The Cobras led 23-21 before Sandhills rallied with two points to tie the match at 23.  After a Caldwell timeout, the Cobras scored the next two points to win the match 25-23.

Set two saw Sandhills jump out to an early 7-2 lead before Caldwell rallied to take an 8-7 lead.  From that point, the Flyers took control of the match, jumping out to a 16-11 lead and forcing a Cobras timeout.  Caldwell would cut the deficit to 21-18 before Sandhills closed out the set with a 25-19 victory.

In set three, Caldwell took an early 4-1 advantage before Sandhills gained their first lead at 8-7.  The Flyers would break an 11-11 tie and build a four-point advantage at 19-15.  The Cobras would rally to cut the lead to one point at 20-19.  Sandhills would close out the match with a five-to-one scoring advantage to win 25-20.

Caldwell built a 10-7 lead in set four.  Sandhills gained their first lead in the set at 14-13.  Caldwell’s last lead of the set would be at 18-17 as the Flyers retook the lead at 19-18 and won their third set by a 25-21 score.

Caldwell sophomore Laney Craig (Hickory, NC) had 12 kills, followed by freshman Kelsey Plumley (Hickory, NC) with 11, and sophomore Greenleigh Gleason (Louisburg, NC) with 10.  Plumley led the Cobras with a .333 hitting percentage.  Caldwell sophomore Josie Chappell (Rosman, NC) and freshman Taylor McClure each had 24 assists.  

Defensively, the Cobras got three block assists each from freshman Destiny Jordan (Hickory, NC), sophomore Leah Pimentel (Charlotte, NC), and Gleason.  Sophomore Emily Ramirez finished with 23 digs.

With the loss, Caldwell fell to 15-3 overall, 5-1 in Region 10 Division Three.  Sandhills improved their record to 27-5, 7-1 in Region 10 Division Three.  Caldwell travels to Wentworth, NC on Saturday for a tri-match starting at 11AM.  The Cobras will face host Rockingham Community College at 11AM before facing Virginia Peninsula Community College at 1PM.
