Disability Services

What is Disability Services?

Disability Services (DS) at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute strives to provide equal access to all the offerings of the college. DS provides comprehensive, quality services to all students with disabilities who experience barriers to academic and personal success. DS offices, located on both campuses, coordinate accommodations, assistive devices, and other support services to all qualified students with disabilities, so each person has the opportunity to develop to his or her maximum academic potential and be self-sufficient. Personnel in DS work closely with students, instructors, staff, and others to offer services to qualified students in an effort to make all the offerings of the college equally available to all. DS personnel are responsive to the educational needs of a diverse population and are dedicated to student success by opening doors and removing barriers to each person’s potential. CCC&TI offices of Disability Services adhere to the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Amendment Act of 2008 (ADAAA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Family Educational Rights and Privileges Act (FERPA), and all other applicable laws. The college is an open door institution and values the diversity of its constituencies while offering equal opportunities.

To be eligible for services, a student must identify him or herself to DS on the campus where the student is attending, or plans to attend, classes at the earliest possible time. Services are available to all students, full-time or part-time, including those enrolled in online classes, distance learning classes, and hybrid classes. Next, the student is responsible for providing current documentation of a disability. Documentation should come from a qualified, licensed professional and address the impact of the disability or disabilities on the student.

Future and current students have access to CCC&TI’s Documentation Policy, along with other policies and procedures relating to disabilities on the college’s website at cccti.edu/student-services-at-cccti/disability-services/. Additionally, a link and/or copy of FERPA and ADAAA laws and applicable forms are found on the website. Students with disabilities should become familiar with all the college’s policies and procedures. More information for SWD can be found at the Office of Civil Rights website located at https://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ocr/index.html.

Students may contact DS by email, telephone, or in person early every semester and arrange for reasonable accommodations to be put in place. Visits during every semester are recommended to promote student success and to keep personnel up-to-date of any problems or barriers the student is experiencing. Questions and concerns are always welcome. Disability Services wants to know how students are doing and how we can help.
