Learning Outcomes

Emphasis is placed on the laboratory procedures performed in:

  • hematology
  • coagulation
  • immunology
  • serology
  • blood bank
  • urinalysis

This course will include topics related to:

  • infection control
  • OSHA regulations
  • laboratory testing
  • quality control

This course includes the procedures of:

  • phlebotomy
  • order of draw
  • vein selection
  • other skills and knowledge of blood draw and proper labeling of specimens

During the initial 14 weeks, students develop knowledge and skills through on-campus learning and simulated laboratory experiences. The final 9 weeks the student participates in assigned experiential learning in a variety of clinical laboratory settings. Students will gain insights and focus on the role of the Medical Laboratory Assistant in a healthcare setting such as hospitals, laboratories, and medical clinics. The course will provide functional knowledge required of a clinical allied healthcare professional.

  1. Social Security card
    • original SIGNED card.
    • First and Last name on card must match government issued PHOTO ID.
    • Cannot be laminated
  2. Government issued PHOTO ID (Driver’s License)
    • First and Last name on ID must match name on social security card.
    • Must be valid and cannot expire before the end of class
  3. High School Diploma or equivalent
  4. Immunization/Health Record Form
    • Provided during orientation
    • Must be completed and signed, or stamped, by student’s health care provider or health department.
    • Must have the following immunizations documented:
      1. Tetanus Booster within past 10 years OR record of Tdap
      2. Varicella (chickenpox) (2 shots or titer =/>1.09
      3. Measles, mumps, rubella – MMR (2 shots or + titer)
      4. Hepatitis B – (3 shots OR Positive Hepatitis B titer OR Declination)
      5. Two-step Tuberculin Skin Test (TST) – current, negative
      6. Flu Vaccination (in season)
      7. Covid Vaccination
        • Vaccine not required by CCC&TI, but may be required by the clinical facility
