Purpose
All new full-time employees shall be hired on a probationary period. The length or
duration of this period is determined by their job classification: a) staff
(non-instructional), b) faculty (instructional). The probationary period allows an
employee to adjust and adapt to the job demands and the work situation, while at the same
time, allows the supervisor to observe firsthand whether he/she will be able to meet the
demands of the job and become a contributing member of the department and a successful
part of the institution as a whole.
Procedure
- Employment during this period shall be considered
at-will, meaning during this period an employee may be terminated without notice.
Employment is voluntary and employees are free to resign without notice during this time
without penalty.
- Employees in this period are eligible for all applicable benefits, and will become
eligible for employment contracts upon successful completion of the probationary period .
- The probationary period for all classes of personnel are as follows:
Staff (non-instructional) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 30, 60, 90 days
Faculty (instructional). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .1st , 2nd semesters
- The fact that an employee is in a "probationary period" for specific period
of time is no indication of continued employment for the entire probationary period. At
any point during the probationary period, the institution reserves the right to dismiss
any employee at any time with or without notice and with or without reason.
- If successful completion of the probationary period occurs and it is determined that
the employee's performance indicate capability to become a satisfactory performer and
merits retention in the position, the employee shall be issued an employment contract
pending the President's approval.
- If, at any time during the probationary period, the employee's performance is
unsatisfactory in the institution's opinion, the employee may be dismissed without
reference to the above in accordance with our Employee Dismissal
